What are some ways to measure where to make the holes for offset tube lugs? And what about the throw off?
I just want a flat color, so is there a specific type of spray paint or primer I should use?
Would drummaker powdercoat hardware for me?

I am new to the forum and I have never made a drum befor. So i deceded I wanted to try to start with a 5.5 x 14 in maple snare. Befor I dive headfirst into a
project like that, I would like to know a few things.

I am guessing you have already figured out how to measure for your lugs in general already. When you offset you just do the regular method of lining up where
the lugs go, and then move one side over the distance you want to offset. Be careful that you don't offset so much that you don't have space for your
throw. Look at how much some of the drums around here are offset and pick a distance like they have used. I usually set my shell in the hoop that it is going
in, to make sure once and for all that my lug markings are right. Measure many times, double check, then check again. Then drill.
I only have done lacquer finishes so I won't wade in on paint. |

Welcome Bob.
Oh, and no, DSH doesn't powder coat. Look in the Yellow Pages under Powder Coating, or Painting. There should be someone in your area that could hook you up. Where are you, by the way?

Thank you very much guys. I'm from long island, NY. I get what you mean, but how can tell how far away the throw off goes from the hoop? Can you just
eyeball somthing like that?
