Ok, so now that I'm playing in two bands, I need more drums. I'm going to start with a snare, as that is the cornerstone of any kit and I can use the
Tamas at my one bass player's house for rehearsal with that band. The sound I'm going for is a nice poppy crack (ala piccolo snare) with no ring (very
dry). From my own experience, I'm thinking the following will get me pretty darn close to where I want to be, but can anyone here chime in if they have
suggestions?
10-Ply 14 x 3 1/2 Keller Maple
10 lug diecast hoops
Some fairly low mass lugs (tube perhaps?)
4 Grommet Vents (I was even thinking 8, would that be overdoing it and kill the volume?)
Evans Genera SD Vented and Hazy Snare Side
I'm going to leave the shell natural and hand rub a satin oil finish on it to try and get as much of the natural sound of the wood as possible.
Does this sound like it will work for my needs?
